Privacy issue w/voting rights...

Monday, November 13 2006 05:45 PM

OK  have been reading and listening to your advice about privacy etc.  And came upon a problem last week when I voted.  They checked my drivers license to see if I was who I said I was and luckily I hadn't changed my address on the DL yet to show my PO Box.  How do you get around the issue of voting (or getting a library card, etc) when you change your address to be a PO box in another jurisdiction?

Well, it seems one way to go about this would be to get a box at a ups store to put on your driver's licence. Then see if you can qualify as an absentee voter so you don't have to go to a polling place by where your box is rented.

Information is available on absentee voting at:

http://www.elections.il.gov/Downloads/ElectionInformation/PDF/absevote.pdf

Just an idea. Would love to hear some ideas from others.

Thanks.

Use the STREET ADDRESS of your post office (you cannot use a po box address on your driver's license if you live in a community over 5000 in population) and your box # like an appartment #.

Well this would work if my UPS box was near my 'district', but there are none in my town, and have had to go to another town/district to purchase a po box.  I like the absentee voting idea tho.
